TO THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE COPENHAGEN CLIMATE CONFERENCE
Copenhagen, 7-12 December, 2009

The Christian religious public is alarmed by the increasing interference of industrial civilization with processes of Nature, a Creation given us by God. This already caused a change of the climate of Earth and threatens life on the planet. We do not oppose the scientific and industrial progress of the humanity, but consider that they must be based on principles of reasonable self-restraint in the process of the use of blessings of nature, on the waiver of thoughtless propaganda and advertising of different sorts of industrial «novelties» which have an ultimate primitive goal of making money.
While discussing questions that concern problems of delivering humanity from threats, caused by anthropogenic changes of the climate of Earth on the conference, it is not enough to discuss and solve the aspects of optimization and ecologization of industrial production, transport, economic and political efforts of countries and continents. A substantial support must be done to the questions of moral reeducation of people, and in particular case - the commanders and organizers of producing goods for consumption. And that’s in turn requires the substantial change of bases of education of people from their childhood. The education must lean not only on mastering the changing scientific knowledges and abilities in fields of the financial world, on economic postulates but also on eternal spiritual principles of the unity of mankind with nature.
In the process of forming the mentality of the human of future, religion must come forward as an important help. Depending on concrete terms it can be Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism – in this context the problem is not about religious flows or different denominations. What is important is the principle of spiritual revival of people, teaching them to love the Divine Creation – Nature, and fellow neighbors. Therefore Churches and Religions that are actively involved in educating the youth (and people on the whole), can play a considerable positive role in achieving the objective, set for the conference in Copenhagen.
The Commission on Ecology and Migrants of the Conference of Roman Catholic Bishops of Ukraine calls the participants of the conference in Copenhagen to hear out our vision of solving the problem of the increasing threat of climate change on Earth, and not only limiting the discussion to problems of technogenetic, economic and political character.
